General lab accreditation
The laboratory at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital has earned accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). CAP conducts a biennial on-site inspection. Successful completion shows the lab fully complies with the organization’s most recent rigorous laboratory standards. The CAP accreditation program is the most respected and recognized laboratory accreditation program in the world, long considered the “gold standard” for measuring lab performance.
This accreditation means to the communities we serve that patients and doctors can be confident that blood tests and other services we provide at our lab meet the highest standards.
Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital’s laboratory holds accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks, conducted in an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB assessors. It certifies that the lab’s blood bank and transfusion services meet the highest industry quality standards.
The blood bank at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital is included in the lab’s general accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). However, the AABB standards are even more stringent in areas relating to blood collection, storage and transfusion.
