Commitment to Quality

Based on our strong support of evidence-based medicine and quality in healthcare, Memorial Medical Center has created a Medical Directorship for the medical center's Clinical Quality Department.  Dr. Mary O'Callaghan is the Medical Director of Clinical Quality.  Dr. O'Callaghan provides leadership and oversight to the Clinical Quality Department and the nearly 300 indicators that are measured, tracked, analyzed and reported monthly.

Quality initiatives implemented by Memorial Medical Center include:

ISO 9001:2008
Memorial Medical Center is certified to the rigorous quality standards of the International Organization for Standardization.  In October, 2010, an independent third-party organization audited Memorial Medical Center and found the hospital in adherence to receive continued certification.  ISO 9001:2008 is a rigorous set of procedures designed to ensure consistently repeatable quality in an organization’s operations, with the aim of enhancing customer satisfaction, and is used worldwide by both manufacturing and service organizations.

The Medical Center in Ludington has passed its audits and met all requirements for continued registration to the ISO quality standards since 1999. Memorial Medical Center pioneered the use of ISO quality standards among Michigan hospitals, and was just the fourth medical facility in the nation to adopt ISO standards.

Meeting the ISO standards provides real benefit to people who count on us for health care. Successful audit results mean we are meeting our most important quality goals, making quality procedures an ingrained part of our everyday work, reducing variation and continually improving our processes.

The effectiveness of our ISO Quality Management System demonstrates that the staff, at all levels of our organization, are committed to providing the highest quality services to our customers.

KEYSTONE INITIATIVES
The Keystone Center for Patient Safety and Quality is a clinical collaborative between the Michigan Health and Hospital Association and Johns Hopkins Medical Center.  It brings together hospitals, national experts and evidence-based strategies to improve patient safety by addressing the quality of health care delivery.  With Keystone OB, Memorial Medical Center's focus has been on interventions to eliminate preventable harm to mothers giving birth and their newborns.  The goal of Keystone ER is to ensure that patients seeking care in the Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department will receive more efficient, high quality and safer care, while increasing patient and staff satisfaction.

HCAHPS

Another quality initiative that receives prominent focus at Memorial Medical Center is the "Hospitals Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems" (HCAHPS) survey.  This survey, completed by patients, measures experiences with care received from doctors, nurses, and support staff.  Results are publicly reported on the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website.  The HCAHPS data is designed to help consumers make informed choices and create incentives for hospitals to improve performance.  Memorial Medical Center is currently at or exceeding the national average in nearly all of the HCAHPS categories.

Home Health CAHPS

Memorial Medical Center participates in the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey for Home Health services.  As part of the survey, Memorial Medical Center measures, monitors and publicly reports patient satisfaction with our Memorial Medical Home Care services.  In addition, Memorial Medical Center Home Care received the "Great American Home Care" award from AdvisorMed, an online report card and healthcare guide, as a top-tier home health agency in Michigan.
