What You Can Do About Warts
Skin bumps known as warts are caused by the human papillomavirus. While unsightly, they’re usually harmless and often disappear on their own within two years.
Salicylic acid—either in over-the-counter products or by prescription— seems to be most effective at removing warts. Covering a wart with duct tape is a popular treatment, but new research shows it doesn’t really help.
If warts are painful or bleed, seek medical attention. Because they can spread, don’t pick or scratch them.
